Litgas has announced that it will start supplying natural gas to Estonia from February 2015, marking the first time that a Lithuanian company will supply natural gas to customers in other countries.

Dominykas Tuckus, General Manager of Litgas, said: “After [the] LNG terminal in Klaipeda […] started its operations, we acquired new options to import natural gas from various sources and offer them to customers in other countries for competitive prices. Furthermore Lithuania gained momentum to become a regional hub for natural gas trading.”

Litgas, which is part of Lietuvos Energija energy company group, expects to supply up to 30 million m3 of natural gas this year. The company has signed a contract with Reola Gaas from the Alexela Group, and is in talks with other potential customers in Estonia.

Natural gas from Lithuania to Estonia will be supplied by gas pipeline via Latvia.

Litgas has 15 non-binding master trade agreements with companies supplying approximately half of world’s LNG. It also has the option to buy natural gas from other Lithuanian importers.
