KOMIPO holds ground-breaking ceremony for Jeju LNG power plant

KOMIPO has released a statement claiming that it has held the ground-breaking ceremony for the Jeju LNG combined cycle power plant in Jeju City, South Korea.

The 240 MW plant will be built on a 35 871 m² site, with a construction budget of 260.9 billion won. GE EPF will provide the main equipment, including the gas turbines, steam turbines and the heat recovery steam generator (HRSG), as well as provide technical support.

Once the construction of the facility is completed in June 2018, the facility will provide the Jeju region with approximately 20% of its power demand. This will help the island become more self-reliant.

Chung Chang-Kil, the President and CEO of KOMIPO, said: “The Jeju LNG CCPP will not emit pollutants like ultrafine dust and will minimise GHG emissions to prepare a springboard for realisation of a carbon-free Jeju and also contribute remarkably to the enhancement of citizens' welfare through creation of jobs, activation of the regional economy and regional cooperation businesses."
