HR Wallingford supports Quantum Power in assessing LNG viability

LNG Industry,

HR Wallingford has supported Quantum Power in assessing the operational viability of the proposed LNG storage, regasification and delivery facilities at Tema, Ghana.

Quantum Power has recently signed a collaboration agreement with Golar LNG to complete the facility and deliver gas by early 2016.

As part of the proposed Ghanaian LNG project at Tema, HR Wallingford carried out advanced feasibility studies, which included metocean, ship mooring and operational assessments. HR Wallingford’s engineers and scientists worked closely with Quantum Power to develop an effective solution to maximise operability of the facility and ensure safe and efficient transfer of LNG.

Quantum Power announced their collaboration with Golar LNG for the project, which will deliver much needed natural gas to the Ghanaian power sector, displacing the more expensive light crude oil that is currently used. Quantum Power aim to deliver first gas by early 2016.

The Tema LNG Project, located in the Eastern part of Ghana, will have the initial ability to receive, store, re-gasify and deliver over 1.75 million tpa of LNG, using a purpose-built FSRU moored offshore, with associated subsea and onshore pipeline networks to deliver the natural gas to power generators in Tema.
