GTT receives AIP for 4000 m3 bunkering ship

Gaztransport & Technigaz (GTT) has announced that Lloyd’s Register has granted the company an approval in principal (AIP) for a 4000 m³ bunkering vessel.

The vessel will use a Mark III Flex Cargo Containment system and operate using a vapour pressure of up to 2 barg, providing greater operational flexibility. For instance, it will allow for the more flexible management of boil-off gas (BOG) during bunkering and loading operations. Additionally – owing to the pressurised membrane tank – the time spent completing bunkering operations is optimised by an increased loading flowrate. Finally, when in stand-by mode or during a voyage, the time taken for the gas pressure to reach the upper limit is increased. Therefore, holding time is improved when there is no consumption of BOG and there is a reduction of the use of any given reliquefaction facility. Overall, costs are thereby reduced.

GTT stated that it is also in the process of carrying out similar studies using NO 96 technology, as well as for LNG-fuelled vessel applications.

We have demonstrated the reliability of our systems to operate beyond atmospheric pressure applications. I believe this new development by GTT, in response to the market requirements, will contribute positively to an efficient LNG as fuel supply chain, and therefore to the growth of LNG as marine fuel market”.
