Europe to increase purchases of US LNG

According to Bloomberg, during a meeting aimed at averting a transatlantic trade war, Jean-Claude Juncker (head of the European Commission) told US President Donald Trump that Europe will soon be building more import terminals in order to facilitate purchases of US LNG.
“They will be a massive buyer, and they will be able to diversify their energy supply,” President Trump commented.
These comments were part of a bigger agreement in which Trump and Juncker said they would suspend new tariffs while negotiating over trade.
In the past, European LNG demand has been largely fulfilled by Russia, however these new deals may change this. Both the US and Qatar have the vast reserves needed to challenge for the position of top supplier.
