Qatar to supply LNG to Pakistan
Qatar has committed to supplying 200 million ft3/d of LNG to Pakistan in 2015, according to local reports.
Delegates from Qatar were sent to Karachi in Pakistan earlier in May to outline a Heads of Agreement. An official said that a price had not been finalised, but that Qatar were pushing for a 15-year supply deal with the option to extend to another five years. Among those at the meeting were Pakistan’s state-run Interstate Gas Systems (ISGS), Sui Southern Gas Company and Pakistan State Oil.
IGIS has awarded the LNG terminal services contract to Enrgo Corp. subsidiary Elengy Terminal Pakistan Limited.
The government of Pakistan is looking at three separate methods of importing LNG: a supply agreement with Qatar on a state-to-state basis; floating tenders for import through competitive bidding; and spot purchases, once the Karachi LNG terminal has been successfully constructed.
