Sinopec in BC LNG terminal talks

Chinese company Sinopec has held talks on a site for the potential construction of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) export terminal in BC. Rich Coleman, Canada’s Minister of Natural Gas Development, said that the company has been exploring other sites and was in talks with another company about a possible collaboration.

“All we know at this point in time is they’ve entered into discussions on a site with another partner”, Reuters cited Coleman as saying. Although he refused to disclose further information, Coleman did say that Sinopec was “here seriously looking for an opportunity”.

Sinopec were not available for comment. The company owns natural gas property in Canada, which, once developed, could feed into a LNG terminal on the pacific coast. This would supply natural gas to Asian markets.

The company joins Shell, Chevron and Petronas, who are all seeking to ship natural gas from Canada to growing Asian markets.
