Approve remaining LNG export permits, urges API

American Petroleum Institute (API) Director of upstream and industry operations, Erik Milito, has urged the Department of Energy to quickly approve all outstanding applications for permits to export LNG to countries that do not have free trade agreements with the US, arguing that to do so would be hugely beneficial, leading to increased job opportunities and revenue.

Milito has highlighted that the law presumes that all applications should be granted, and therefore there should be no reason for further delay. He has also argued that the benefits, not only for America, but also its strategic allies; including Europe, Asia, and South and Central America, are abundantly clear.

According to a report by ICF International, increased LNG exports could create tens of thousands of jobs while having only minimal impact on US domestic natural gas prices. However, US companies face considerable competition from LNG sales abroad; there are at least 63 international LNG export projects currently planned or under construction.
