Fourth LNG carrier launched in South Korea

The launching ceremony of the fourth ship in a series of four LNG (liquefied natural gas) carriers was held on 11th February in South Korea.

The LNG carrier SCF Mitre will be assigned the RS class notation ‘KM Ice2 AUT1 OMBO EPP ANTI-ICE LI CCO ECO-S WINTERIZATION(-30) Gas carrier type 2G (methane)’, according to the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping.

The ultramodern Atlanticmax gas carriers are equipped with membrane cargo tanks of 170 000 m3 capacity, and are provided with equipment suitable for operating in low temperature conditions. This will enable the ships to perform year-round transportation of gas from all existing LNG terminals.

SCF Mitre is the second ship ordered by OAO Sovcomflot under a long-term agreement with Shell. The first ship, SCF Melampus, was launched on 5th November 2013. The delivery of SCF Melampus is planned for the late 2014, while the SCF Mitre is due for delivery in early 2015.
