PNG LNG project expects early first delivery

ExxonMobil’s Papua New Guinea liquefied natural gas (LNG) project (PNG LNG) is expected to start first delivery of LNG to Asia in mid-year – four months ahead of schedule.

The date for the first export of LNG could be as early as 1 July, said ExxonMobil CEO Rex Tillerson: ‘It looks like it’s probably going to start off early relative to what we have planned – just a superb job by the project team there in an extraordinarilydifficult environment.”

Milestone

Peter Graham, Managing Director of Esso Highlands – a subsidiary of ExxonMobil and the project coordinators – said that the company had achieved a “great milestone.”

“It’s just a great demonstration of what can be achieved in Papua New Guinea and that is just so important for future investment in PNG as well.”

The US$ 19 billion plant, which consists of two liquefaction trains, will supply 6.9 million tpa to buyers in Japan, China and Taiwan.
