Coast Guard issues draft bunkering policies
The US Coast Guard has released two draft policies on liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering.
The documents, which were released on 7th February, are currently available for public comment. The drafts provide voluntary guidance for vessels using LNG as fuel and for bunkering facilities.
The first draft policy letter addresses fuel transfer operations and the training of vessel personnel. “It recommends transfer and personnel training measures that we believe will achieve a level of safety that is at least equivalent to that provided for traditional fuelled vessels," the Coast Guard said.
The second draft policy discusses voluntary guidance and existing regulations applicable to vessels and waterfront facilities conducting LNG marine fuel transfer operations. It addresses safety, security, and risk assessment measures for bunkering facilities and vessels.
