Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) has delivered LNG carrier ‘Lena River’ at a ceremony at the HHI shipyard in Ulsan, South Korea.
The Gazprom Marketing & Trading (GM&T) group will time charter ‘Lena River’ from Greek LNG tanker operator Dynagas for several years.
‘Lena River’ is the third LNG carrier on charter between GM&T group and Dynagas after ‘Ob River’, which became famous last year for being the world’s first LNG carrier to pass through the Northern Sea Route, and ‘Yenisei River’, which was delivered in July.
The steadily expanding fleet of LNG carriers will be used to support GM&T growing global LNG trading portfolio.
The latest LNG carrier features membrane tanks, has a cargo capacity of 155 000 m3 and is powered by a tri-fuel diesel-electric propulsion system. The LNG carrier is able to sail in ice conditions, thanks to its 1A ice class and winterisation equipment. ‘Lena River’ will thus be able to sail through the Northern Sea Route during open navigation.
Like the ‘Ob River’ and ‘Yenisei River’, the ‘Lena River’ LNG carrier will be operated by an international crew, including graduates of the Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping (SUMIS), St. Petersburg, Russia.
Like its sister LNG carriers, ‘Lena River’ is named after one of the three great Russian Siberian rivers that flow into the Arctic Ocean.
