Bureau Veritas classed fleet hits milestone

LNG Industry,

A considerable increase in the numbers of ships being transferred into BV class has pushed the Bureau Veritas classed fleet past the 100 million gross tonnes milestone.

At the end of H1 2014, Bureau Veritas had classed 10,700 ships totalling over 100 million gross tonnes.

Philippe Donche-Gay, Executive VP and Head of Bureau Veritas's Marine & Offshore Division commented: "Our classed fleet has doubled in size over the last eight years and it is gratifying that the growth is coming from clients who experience and recognise both our technical leadership and our responsiveness. In addition to newbuildings joining the fleet we are seeing increasing transfers of fleets of modern vessels to BV class."

The classed fleet is well diversified with a strong presence in every sector of shipping. The BV fleet includes bulk, tanker and containership vessels, as well as LNG ships. The classification society is also a world leader in classing tugs, offshore service and specialised vessels and in the top three class societies in the offshore field.

Donche-Gay continued: "It is an important part of our strategy that we are present in every type of shipping so that we can deploy our experience and competence to help owners with any type of ship or offshore development."

Didier Michaud-Daniel, CEO of Bureau Veritas, added: "Our expertise and innovation in the maritime industry were the founding for the creation of the Bureau Veritas Group. We are proud of the long-term relationships that we have built with our clients based on mutual trust."
