Beijing public transport goes green
At the end of August, the Beijing air-purifying scheme was launched at the Chinese commercial vehicle company, Foton’s, headquarters. The launch showcased the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Bus Startup Project and Beijing’s new social public interest event on environmental protection.
As a significant step forward in Beijing’s five-year air purification plan, Beijing Bus Group has purchased 3012 Foton AUV LNG buses. This contract is the largest domestic purchase order for passenger vehicles. Foton representatives explained that there are numerous different models involved in the order, which prices ranging between 1.2-1.3 million yuan. More than 400 of these buses have officially been put into service in the initial go-live phase.
This marks the start of the implementation stage of Beijing’s integrated solutions to green public transport. According to management, the remaining Foton LNG buses will be fully operational in Q1 2014.
