General Dynamics NASSCO christens Magnolia State

On Saturday 23 April 2016, General Dynamics NASSCO held a christening ceremony in San Diego, California, US, for a state class ECO tanker that it has been built for American Petroleum Tankers (APT).
The Magnolia State is the second of five LNG-ready tankers that General Dynamics NASSCO is contracted to build for APT. The first tanker, the Lone Star State, was christened in October 2015.
The Magnolia State was officially christened by the ship’ sponsor, Mrs Trang Cormack, who broke a bottle of champagne against the tanker, as is tradition.
All five of the vessels, which have a capacity of 300 000 bbl, were designed by a subsidiary of Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) – DSEC – and incorporate features such as a G-series MAN ME slow-speed main engine, as well as an optimised hull form and the capacity to be installed with an LNG-fuel gas system at a later date.
Approximately 2000 shipyard workers had a role in constructing the ship.
