New name for Australian gas association
The Australian Pipeline Industry Association has changed its name to reflect an increased focus on gas policy. The group is now called the Australian Pipelines and Gas Association (APGA).
A statement from the group explained: “Australia has abundant reserves of natural gas, enough to supply both domestic and international markets. Natural gas should, therefore, provide excellent outcomes for the national’s economy and energy security.”
LNG exports
Gas exports in the form of LNG are making a major contribution to the economy, and the country is on track to become the world’s largest LNG exporter by 2018. However, APGA warned that the structural change that the expanding LNG industry is causing is impacting the domestic gas market, with price increases and users reporting difficulties in accessing supplies.
Under its new name, the Australian Pipelines and Gas Association will continue to contribute to gas policy development, highlighting the value of natural gas to the economy.
The APGA aims to encourage better communication between the gas industry and the community, to improve sustainable development of reserves, providing benefits to landholders and the wider community, as well as gas companies.
