Italy’s Ministry of Economic Development has given the final approval for the construction of a regasification terminal to be constructed by Api Nova Energia offshore of the town of Falconara Marittima. The new project is worth approximately €200 million and is estimated to commence in 2015.

Under an agreement with Api Nova Energia, the Marche region authorities have an option to buy up to 30% of a company that owns the project, Api Nova Energia said.

The FSRU will a capacity of about 4 billion m3/yr and will be located 16 km from the coast in the Api Group energy centre where there is already a crude oil terminal, refineries and oil offloading facilities.

The new LNG terminal will use a pre-existing platform for loading oil tankers, which will be specially modified to allow LNG tankers to dock.

The gas will be piped onshore through a new 16 km subsea pipeline and from there to a station for measuring and controlling the connection to the existing gas network.

"The possibility of building this infrastructure will enable us to guarantee the consolidation and sustainability of our industrial site to offer the region of Marche an opportunity for socio-economic development," said Ferdinando Brachetti Peretti, CEO of Api Holding and chairman of Api Nova Energia, in a statement.
