Tokyo Gas to begin construction of Hitachi LNG terminal
Tokyo Gas has signed a contract fro the purchase of the site for the proposed Hitachi LNG terminal in Ibaraki port, Hitachi district. Construction work is expected to begin in July 2012.
Tokyo Gas is also planning to install the Ibaraki-Tochigi Line to connect the terminal to the existing pipeline in Moka city by 2015.
This new pipeline is part of the company’s ambitious ‘Challenge 2020 Vision’, which aims to increase the amount of production and supply infrastructure to deal with the increased demand for natural gas toward 2020.
The planned pipeline will also help to improve the stability of overall supply infrastructure by linking the Hitachi terminal with the existing three terminals in Tokyo bay.
Japan is increasingly looking to LNG as the fuel for the future to replace nuclear power and needs to increase the infrastructure to enable the transmission of natural gas.
