Step forward for Alaskan LNG

The Alaskan Senate has passed Senate Bill 138, the legislation to advance the Alaska natural gas pipeline and LNG project. The bill provides the framework for Alaska to become an owner in the Alaska LNG project and move the project into the Pre-Front End Engineering and Design (Pre-FEED) stage.

Commenting on the passing of the bill, Governor Sean Parnell said: “I applaud the Senate for voting today to advance the Alaska LNG Project and ensure Alaska’s gas is maximized for Alaskans’ benefit.

“Our legislation paves the way for Alaskans to become owners in the project and ensures an open, public process going forward. I look forward to working with the House in the coming weeks to pass our legislation on Alaska’s terms and in Alaskans’ interests.”

Parnell also thanked Senator Anna Fairclough for carrying the bill on the Senate floor: “This important legislation was thoroughly vetted in committee. I commend these legislators for doing their due diligence and for their careful consideration of the legislation.”

The Alaska LNG bill now moves to the House.
