Pertamina regasification hub to come online in 2014
The Indonesian state-owned oil and gas company Pertamina, has said that its liquefied natural gas (LNG) regasification and storage facility in Arun, Aceh, is due to come online in 2014. The hub is expected to cost in excess of US$ 80 million.
The terminal will be engineered from an exporting hub into an importing one, although LNG for the 3 million tpa regasification facility will be sourced from both domestic and foreign supplies. The storage unit, which currently holds a maximum amount of 600 000 m3 of LNG, is undergoing moderations which will see this section of the terminal come online in 2015.
Energy security
“Our objective in building this hub in Arun is for the energy security of Indonesia”, Salis Aprilian, Pertamina’s senior vice president for engineering and operation management of gas, was quoted by Reuters as saying. He added that having LNG storage facilities enabled the company to supply gas anytime it is needed.
A consortium of companies – Perta Arun Gas (majority owners at 70%), ExxonMobil and the Japan Indonesia LNG Company – will operate the LNG project.
