Southern LNG applies for LNG export license
Southern LNG, owned by El Paso Corp. has applied to export 4 million toy of LNG from its Elba Island terminal in Savannah, Georgia to countries which have a free trade agreement with the US. The company also intends to file an application to export LNG to companies which do not have a free trade agreement with the US.
Currently the Elba Island terminal imports LNG from ocean-going tankers and regasifies it to be sent out via the national pipeline grid. So far 11 LNG terminals in the US have been granted LNG export licenses and four more are pending.
