Wärtsilä wins contract for Icthys project
Wärtsilä Moss AS has won the contract to provide inert gas generators (IGG) to an FPSO unit, Daewoo Shipbuilding & Engineering Co (DSME) are building the vessel, which is due for delivery in April 2016.
Wärtsilä Moss will provide two identical IGG skids for installation in a hazardous area to prevent potential explosions. They will form part of the vessel’s topside module along with PV breakers and control systems as loose supply for installation by the shipyard in South Korea.
“The IGG units perform the same function as they would do on a tanker vessel but as these units fire fuel gas they are positioned on topside to avoid the use of fuel gas in an enclosed space. This is a requirement from TOTAL to ensure natural ventilation of the topside,” said Odd Ivar Lindlov, General Manager, Inert Gas Systems Offshore
The FPSO will also the operator to perform preliminary processing on the produced gas to remove water and extract condensate and gas which will then be transported to an onshore facility in Darwin by subsea pipeline.
The onshore facilities will have a peak capacity of 8.4 million tpy of LNG, 1.6 million tpy of LPG and will be able to process 100,000 bpd of condensate.
