Qatargas, the largest LNG producing company in the world, with an annual LNG production capacity of 42 million tpa, has presented certificates to eleven national employees from Qatargas Finance and Administration to mark their successful passing of a course in accountancy skills.

The course was delivered by tutors from Ernst & Young’s training academy over four weeks in May and June and culminated in three exams. It was designed to ensure participants had a thorough grasp of the core foundations of the profession.  Topics included Financial Reporting, budgeting and cost accounting and other advanced concepts.  All of the participants were successful in passing each exam they attempted, and they  are now equipped to start the professional examinations of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), a leading global accountancy body.

Qatargas Chief Executive Officer, Khalid Bin Khalifa Al Thani, said: “This is a great step forward towards our national population attaining professional accountancy qualifications, something which will identify them as having all of the required technical competences and skills to attain the highest positions within our Finance team.  Being able to demonstrate this to our shareholders will be a significant step forward in our Qatarization programme.  Our Qatarization strategy forms a key element of our corporate social responsibility and is aligned with the Human Development pillar of the Qatar National Vision 2030.  I would like to thank these employees for taking the first steps in what I hope will lead to them becoming fully qualified accountants.”
