Funding for Pacific NorthWest LNG project
The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency (CEAA), has awarded a total of CAN$ 312 636 to 12 applicants to support their participation in the federal environmental assessment of the proposed Pacific NorthWest Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Project in British Columbia, Canada.
The funding has been made available to the public and Aboriginal groups through the Participant Funding Program administered by the CEAA. It will facilitate participation in the stages of the environmental assessment of the proposed LNG project, which will include reviewing and providing comments on the Environmental Impact Statement and a draft Environmental Assessment Report.
The 12 successful applicants and the total funds allocated to each are:
- Kitsumkalum First Nation - CAN$ 49 976
- Metlakatla First Nation - CAN$ 50 000
- Gitxaala Nation - CAN$ 49 920
- Lax Kw'alaams Band - CAN$ 49 940
- Kitselas First Nation - CAN$ 50 000
- T. Buck Suzuki Environmental Foundation - CAN$ 10 500
- Skeena Fisheries Commission - CAN$ 10 500
- United Fisherman and Allied Workers' Union - CAN$ 10 500
- World Wildlife Fund - CAN$ 8400
- Skeena Watershed Conservation Coalition - CAN$ 10 200
- Heiltsuk Tribal Council - CAN$ 10 500
- Prince Rupert Environmental Society - CAN$ 2200
Pacific NorthWest LNG Ltd is proposing to construct and operate a LNG facility and marine terminal near Prince Rupert. The proposed project would convert natural gas to LNG for export to Pacific Rim markets in Asia.
