Total seeks partner for LNG import terminal

French petroleum company Total is seeking a partner to build a liquefied natural gas (LNG) regasification terminal in plans to import LNG. The construction of the LNG terminal would strengthen the company’s foothold in the country’s LNG market.

Anton Safronov, Total Gas and Power Origination Director for Southeast Asia said: “We plan to supply LNG beginning 2016. That is our internal projection and view. We have identified a potential offtaker for the LNG [venture]. We have already shortlisted two potential Filipino offtakers.”Total will hope to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the offtaker by the second half of 2014.

The imported gas will be sourced predominantly from Qatar, Yemen, Nigeria, the US, and Australia. “We plan to supply directly to the offtaker,” the official added.

Safronov added: “We, ourselves, will not develop an LNG terminal but we are partnering. That’s the second consideration. We will participate in building it just like we have in India and Mexico.”
