Fluor and JGC awarded Kitimat LNG EPC contract

LNG Industry,

The Kitimat liquefied natural gas (LNG) export project, jointly owned by Chevron Corp. (50%) and Apache Corp. (50%), has awarded an engineering, procurement and construction contract to Fluor Corporation and its venture partner JGC for a LNG plant in Bish Cove, British Columbia (BC).

Kitimat LNG, the most advanced LNG project in Western Canada, will have a capacity of 11 million tpa, made up of two liquefaction trains with an equal capacity of 5.5 million t.

Peter Oosterveer, president of Fluor’s Energy & Chemicals Group, said: “We are excited to enter into the next phase of supporting the Kitimat LNG project for Chevron and their partner Apache. Kitimat has the potential to become Canada’s first major LNG production and export terminal. Our strategic relationship with JGC was a key to winning this project and is certainly proving to be a differentiator in our markets.”

Project scope

The project scope includes completion of the existing FEED package by finalising value-improving concepts for the proposed LNG facility. The scope of work also includes detailed engineering and procurement services for the initial phases of the project.

The project will be performed by Fluor and its joint venture partner, JGC. JGC will be responsible for the liquefaction process facilities as the core of the LNG plant, with Fluor principally responsible for utilities and offsite facilities. Both companies will leverage their global capabilities and expertise. Project work will be executed from their North America and Asia Pacific offices.
