Inpex starts up Naoetsu LNG terminal

Inpex Corp. has announced that it has held a ceremony to celebrate the completion of the Naoetsu LNG terminal, located in Joetsu City, Niigata Prefecture, Japan. The terminal is located adjacent to Chubu Electric Power Co.’s Joetsu Thermal Power Plant. The facilities are connected by a pipework for sharing LNG in an emergency.

The LNG terminal’s main facilities include two above-ground LNG tanks with a capacity of 180 000 kl, a berth that enables Q-Flex LNG tankers to unload and vaporizers and calorific value adjustment facilities.

The LNG terminal has capacity to receive and regas approximately 1.5 million tpa of LNG.

The first LNG carrier berthed at the LNG terminal in August 2013 and the terminal started its operations on 1 December, ahead of the planned schedule.

As the feed gas to the Terminal, INPEX is going to supply LNG based on the LNG Sales and Purchase Agreement with Chubu Electric concluded on 31 July this year, and plans to supply LNG from INPEX’s LNG projects including the Ichthys LNG project in Australia operated by INPEX, which will start production by the end of 2016.
