LNG dual-fuel vessel journey to B.C. progressing

BC Ferries has announced that the Salish Raven – the third and final LNG dual-fuel Salish Class vessel – is expected to arrive in Panama in approximately two weeks, depending on the weather.

The journey from Gdansk, Poland, to British Columbia (B.C.), Canada, is 10 440 miles, with BC Ferries claiming that the vessel stopped in Santa Cruz, Canary Islands, on 7 May for refuelling and provisioning. It is now en route across the Atlantic Ocean to Panama. Once there, it will transit the Panama Canal before sailing up the west coast to reach B.C.

BC Ferries claims that the ship’s crew has said that the voyage is going well.

The company will take final acceptance and ownership of the vessel upon final inspection once the vessel arrives. Remontowa Shipbuilding S.A. is responsible for delivering the vessel, and has contracted with a professional international ship delivery specialist.

The Salish Raven is scheduled to be introduced in the Southern Gulf Islands in Autumn 2017.
