Pakistan nears LNG agreement with Yemen
Pakistan is set to sign an agreement with Yemen for the import of liquefied natural gas (LNG). It is expected that the decision will be finalised on a visit to Pakistan by the Yemini Minister for Oil and Minerals later this month.
This decision was reached during a meeting of the Pakistan-Yemen Joint Ministerial Commission, which took place from 7 – 8 January in Islamabad.
This comes days after Pakistan’s Prime Minister spoke out of the country’s need to secure more imports of natural gas to tackle acute energy shortages that Pakistan is facing.
A deal was signed with Qatar in November, which will see Pakistan import 400 million ft3/d of LNG from Qatar as of October 2014. Pakistan is also seeking to import LNG from India in a deal with Gail India, which would see 5 million m3/d transported to Pakistan through 110 km pipeline.
