Iran may export LNG to EU through Spain

Iran has reportedly received a proposal from Spain to use its liquefaction facilities in order to export LNG to Europe. The proposal was raised during a meeting between Iran’s Oil Minister, Bijan Zangeneh, and the Spanish Minister of Industry, Energy and tourism, José Manuel Soria López.
Iran currently has no liquefaction facilities of its own, so exports beyond the reach of pipelines are not currently possible. In 2013, Spain reloaded 3.8 billion m3 of LNG for export to Latin America, Asia, and Europe, and analysts expect that the Iran-Spain proposal could involve a similar reloading scheme. Expects predict that if partners are found, it will take approximately two years for exports to begin.
“Talks between Iran and Spain on this topic will continue,” said Zangeneh.
