GDF Suez’s Distrigas receives Coast Guard honour
Distrigas of Massachusetts LLC, GDF Suez’s subsidiary that operates the Everett LNG Terminal, has received top honours in the ‘Large Facility’ category of the US Coast Guard’s 2013-2014 Rear Admiral Richard E. Bennis Award for Excellence in Maritime Security.
The award recognises and encourages organisations demonstrating a true comprehensive culture of security. More specifically, it recognises outstanding achievements and contributions of the maritime community regarding the implementation of the Maritime Transportation Security Act requirements and other maritime security best practices in safeguarding our nation’s maritime transportation system.

Commenting on the award, Tony Scaraggi, VP of Operations for Distrigas, said: “We are honoured to receive this award. A focus on safety and security is not only important to our business, it’s the reason we have remained in operation for the past 42 years and will continue to be a key energy provider to New England well into the future. Our employee culture and corporate goals both support this focus and make our commitment real.”

LNG business
Distrigas is part of GDF Suez Energy North America, Inc., which manages a number of energy businesses in the US, Mexico, and Canada. These businesses include electricity generation and cogeneration, natural gas and LNG distribution and sales, asset-based trading and origination, and retail energy sales and related services to commercial and industrial customers.
The company owns and operates an LNG receiving terminal in Everett, Massachusetts, which began operations in 1971 and currently serves most of the natural gas utilities in New England and key power producers through both pipeline deliveries and an average of 10,000 tanker truck deliveries of LNG each year.
