B.C. government sets out LNG intentions
The Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia (B.C.), Judith Guichon, set out the B.C. government’s intention to pass a comprehensive legislative framework for the LNG industry, in a speech from the throne. The LNG trade is set to transform the Canadian province’s economy.
Legislation to be introduced in the autumn session will provide increased certainty for proponents of potential LNG projects, ensure fair benefits for British Columbians, establish B.C. as a competitive environment for investment in this key industry, and protect the local environment.
“This session is a crucial moment for B.C., as we work to sustain our natural gas industry and drive it to new heights through export to Asia-Pacific countries,” said Premier Christy Clark. “Done right, LNG is an opportunity to create 100 000 family-supporting jobs and continue investing in the public services we depend on.”
Trained in LNG
During the autumn session, the government will continue its work to ensure that British Columbians are trained and first in line for new jobs, to secure responsible development of B.C.’s natural resources, and advance recognition and reconciliation of First Nations interests.
