Drydocks World completes Prelude turret mooring system

Drydocks World has successfully completed the construction of the world’s largest turret mooring system.

The system has been created for SBM Offshore, Technip and Shell. The occasion was celebrated by a sail-away and completion ceremony that was attended by Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and Chairman and Chief Executive of The Emirates Airline Group.

With over 5 million LTI-free manhours completed on the turret project, the mooring system spans almost 100 m high and 26 m dia., and weighs over 11 000 t. Its purpose is to ensure that the Prelude floating LNG (FLNG) storage and production facility is able to operate safely in the most extreme weather conditions, thereby unlocking new energy resources offshore to meet growing demand. The FLNG unit will be stationed by Shell off the northwest coast of Australia, at its Prelude gas field.

Drydocks World believes that this project has strengthened its position in turret fabrication, and exhibits its ability to deliver large-scale projects. It also exemplifies the global nature of the offshore industry – with designs completed in Monaco, construction in Dubai, and the modules shipped to South Korea for use off Australia.
