Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) has carried out a new phase of surveyors training on classification services for LNG carriers.
RS carried out the first phase between 2008 and 2010 in cooperation with American Bureau of Shipping (ABS). It included a theoretical course for surveyors and practical training on LNG carriers directed by qualified ABS mentors. It trained 15 specialists, many of whom are successfully performing classification and surveying work throughout the construction of LNG carriers at shipyards in South Korea.
LNG transportation
In 2012 to 2013, a further two training seminars on LNG transportation by sea were held for surveyors at the RS Training Center. This was largely due to predicted activity growth in the design and construction of LNG carriers for procurement of large Russian LNG production projects, wuch as Vladivostok LNG and Yamal LNG.
LNG carrier on-site training
Throughout 2013 to 2014, the trained engineers proceeded to the STX Offshore and Shipbuilding yard in South Korea for on-site training on LNG tankers currently under construction. RS now has over 60 highly skilled experts in classification services during the construction or operation of state-of-the-art LNG carriers all over the world.
