Qatari LNG to cost US$ 17/million Btu
Pakistan’s Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, revealed to the Senate Standing Committee on Petroleum and Natural Resources that the price to import Qatari liquefied natural gas (LNG) would cost US$ 17/million Btu for all those other than domestic consumers.
The Minister said that negotiations over price were taking place between Qatar and the Pakistani government, although nothing has been finalised. Khaqan Abbasi revealed that a LNG terminal would be constructed by a private company, Engro Vopak Terminal Limited (EVTL), who would receive US$ 0.66/million Btu in service charges.
The Minister stated that importing LNG was essential to alleviating the current energy crisis, for which he blamed the previous government.
Khaqan Abbasi said that foreign policy concerns surrounded the Iran-Pakistan (IP) gas pipeline project, although a meeting was to be held by the end of January to discuss progress.
