Downer secures Wheatstone LNG contract
Downer EDI Limited has secured a contract with Bechtel for two electrical and instrumentation (E&I) packages for the downstream section of the Wheatstone liquefied natural gas (LNG) project in Western Australia.
Under the agreement, Downer expects to create up to 600 jobs in Western Australia. The new roles will be primarily in electrical construction and instrumentation, as well as a number of new project administration and support roles in Downer’s Perth office.
The contracted work, which covers the LNG trains and domestic gas plant processing areas, includes:
- Installation of cable support systems.
- Installation of electrical, control and instrumentation cabling.
- Installation and calibration of instruments.
- Installation of major electrical equipment.
- General lighting and power.
- Pre-commissioning works.
- Commissioning and start-up assistance.
CEO of Downer, Grant Fenn, commented: “We are delighted to have been awarded the E&I packages on one of Australia’s largest resources projects and to create employment opportunities within Australia. Downer is Australia’s leading E&I contractor and these contracts will help us to build on our proven track record in oil and gas. We have a strong working relationship with Bechtel and look forward to working with them to deliver this important project”.
The contract is worth approximately AU$ 400 million and will commence operation late next year.
