Shell resumes LNG delivery after force majeure
Nine days on from announcing a force majeure, a contract clause that allowed it to miss shipments, Royal Dutch Shell Plc (RDSA) has recommenced LNG supply to its Bonny Island facility, Nigeria LNG Ltd. revealed. Spokeswoman for Nigeria LNG, Anna-Marine Palmer-Ikuku, said: “Their gas supply is now restored and we expect that they remove their force majeure”. She revealed that Nigeria LNG was producing at 95%, having loaded eight LNG and two condensate tankers.
The Bonny Island’s LNG supply, which produces 21.8 million tpy (8% of global annual production) was reduced by 30% after Shell declared a force majeure due to the theft that left crude leaks in its Trans Niger pipeline.
State-run Nigeria LNG exported a record 333 LNG vessels in 2012 since its foundation in 1999. The Nigerian National Petroleum Corp. holds a 49% stake whilst shell owns 26%. Other stakes are held by Total SA (15%) and Eni SpA (10%).
