OEM launches in Pennsylvania to promote LNG exports

LNG Industry,

Underscoring the economic benefits of expanded LNG export markets to the US economy, a bipartisan and diverse group of state officials, business groups, service companies and many others officially launched Our Energy Moment (OEM) in Pennsylvania today with an event in Pittsburgh. Our Energy Moment's Pennsylvania chapter joins a growing national coalition focused on educating the public and public policy leaders about the benefits of expanded LNG exports.

"LNG exports present an opportunity to bring good paying jobs with good benefits to American workers," said Jason French, spokesperson for the Our Energy Moment coalition. "We must ensure that the US doesn't miss this historic opportunity, and Pennsylvania has a critical role to play in guaranteeing that we don't."

It is anticipated that LNG exports will generate as much as US$ 86 billion in net benefits to the US economy, helping to create up to 2.4 million US jobs by 2035. A report filed by ICF International stated that up to 59 000 new jobs and US$ 10 billion in economic impacts will be created for Pennsylvanians by 2035 due to future LNG exports.

"Huge economic win"

"LNG exports represent a huge economic win for Pennsylvania," said Tom Ridge, Pennsylvania's 43rd governor and the first US Secretary of Homeland Security. "The economic benefits will be realised almost immediately and will re-establish Pennsylvania as a leader in America's energy revolution. The modern petroleum industry was launched in Pennsylvania 150 years ago, not far from Pittsburgh. I look forward to working with leaders on both sides of the aisle to grow this emerging industry so that this historic opportunity doesn't pass us by."

Earlier this month, three of the Keystone State's premiere voices for industry, the Marcellus Shale Coalition (MSC), the Pennsylvania Independent Oil and Gas Association (PIOGA), and the Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry, announced that they were joining the OEM coalition.

"Pennsylvania has an abundant supply of natural gas largely due to the Marcellus Shale formation," said David N. Taylor, Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Manufacturers' Association. "By safely harnessing this game-changing resource we can spur economic growth for Pennsylvanian workers and businesses."

With today's launch, Pennsylvania joins Louisiana, Texas, and an alliance of more than 40 organisations committed to creating US jobs and strengthening the nation’s economy through expanding markets for LNG.
