Gazprom has announced that its Chairman of the Management Committee, Alexey Miller, recently held a working meeting with Toyohisa Kozuki, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Russia.
During the meeting at Gazprom’s headquarters, the two parties discussed issues related to the interaction between Gazprom and Japanese energy companies, with a focus on broader cooperation in the LNG sector. The talks included the expansion of the Sakhalin II project.
The operator of Sakhalin II is Sakhalin Energy Investment Company Ltd (Gazprom – 50% plus one share, Shell – 27.5% minus one share, Mitsui – 12.5%, and Mitsubishi – 10%). In June 2015, Gazprom and Shell signed a memorandum to construct the LNG plant’s third production train. In 2015, the plant produced 10.8 million t of LNG, exceeding its design capacity by 1.2 million t.
