Woodfibre LNG project receives environmental approval

Woodfibre LNG has released a statement claiming that the British Columbia (B.C.) Environmental Assessment Office (EAO) has provided the proposed LNG project with an Environmental Assessment Certificate (EAC). The project is a mid scale LNG processing and export facility and is approximately 7 km from Squamish, B.C. The whole review process is being completed by the B.C. EAO on behalf of the EAO and Canadian Environment Assessment Agency (CEAA).

The Vice President of Corporate Affairs at Woodfibre LNG Ltd, Byng Giraud, said: “Receiving environmental approval in British Columbia is not only an important milestone for the Woodfibre LNG project, but it means the people of Squamish and the region are one step closer to realising the opportunities that an industrial project like Woodfibre LNG can bring.”

This follows the recent announcement that the Woodfibre LNG project had received approval from Squamish Nation – an aboriginal group in B.C. – which presented the project leaders with 25 conditions that had to be met.

Giraud said: “From the very beginning, we committed to Squamish Nation that we would participate in its environmental assessment process.

“We expected that Squamish Nation would hold us to a very high standard, and the Environmental Assessment Agreement between Woodfibre LNG Limited and Squamish Nation reflects a shared high standard for environmental stewardship.”
