FERC to issue EIS for Eagle LNG project
The US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) will prepare an environmental impact statement (EIS) examining the potential effects of Eagle LNG Partners’ LNG project, to be located on the St. Johns River in Jacksonville, Florida.
The FERC will use the EIS in its decision-making process to determine whether to authorise the LNG production, storage, and export facility at the site in Florida.
As part of the process, the FERC will gather input from the public and interested agencies on the project. This comment period is open now, until 26 March 2015.
The project
Eagle LNG proposes to construct, own and operate the Jacksonville LNG facility, on industrial zoned land adjacent to the St. Johns River. The facility will receive domestic natural gas, transported through existing and expanded pipelines, and utilise super-cooling to create LNG for temporary onsite storage.
The project will include three liquefaction trains, each with a capacity of 0.18 million tpy, one LNG storage tank, and a marine load-out facility and dock on the river that will be able to accommodate small to mid size LNG vessels and bunkering barges. LNG will be periodically loaded for transport onto trucks, containers, or ocean-going vessels, and marketed for use in US vehicular and high-horsepower engines, domestic ship fuelling (marine bunkering) and international export.
