Cameron LNG holds groundbreaking ceremony

A groundbreaking ceremony has been held for Cameron LNG’s new liquefaction export facilities in Hackberry, Louisiana.

The LNG project is being developed by a joint venture formed by Sempra Energy's Sempra LNG unit, GDF SUEZ S.A., Mitsui and Co. Ltd and Mitsubishi Corp., through a related company jointly established with Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha.

The US$10 billion LNG liquefaction project comprises a three-train facility with an export capacity of 12 million tpa of LNG. All of the trains are expected to start operating during 2018, with the first full year of operations the following year. The LNG project received final approval to operate by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) in June 2014. In September, the LNG project received final authorisation to export LNG to non-FTA (free trade agreement) countries from the US Department of Energy (DOE).

Cameron LNG expects to add approximately 3000 jobs in the area during the peak year of construction. Once the LNG project is in operation, it will offer around 200 full-time jobs in Louisiana and Texas.
