Bechtel commences construction at Tilbury LNG

Bechtel has commenced construction at the Tilbury LNG facility in British Columbia.

FortisBC, the owner and operator of the facility, awarded Bechtel an engineering, procurement, and construction contract to expand its Tilbury facility, which will include a new 1 billion ft³ LNG storage tank.

Bechtel also is responsible for the startup and commissioning of the new liquefaction facility.

Commenting on the project, Jack Futcher, President of Bechtel's Oil, Gas & Chemicals business unit, said: "This is an important project for the region, and we will draw upon our global LNG experience to safely and successfully expand the Tilbury facility. We are looking forward to working with FortisBC to deliver needed energy to the people of British Columbia."

Construction is due to be completed in November 2016. The project will add approximately 46,000 m³ of LNG storage and increase the facility's liquefaction capacity to 1740 m³/d to meet the growing LNG demands of the transportation sector, remote communities, and industry in British Columbia.
