Metlakatla First Nation updates on PNWLNG project

The Metlakatla First Nation has issued a statement on the environmental review of the Pacific NorthWest LNG (PNWLNG) project, and the aboriginal title claim to Lelu Island and Skeena River Estuary.
The First Nation said that it will continue its work to address environmental concerns regarding the PNWLNG project, which have not yet been resolved.
The Metlakatla First Nation reviews the potential environmental impacts from projects independently through its Metlakatla Stewardship Society. The Metlakatla Stewardship Office (MSS) evaluates the impact of all developments on the First Nation’s lands, waters and resources. Since February 2013, the MSS has been highly engaged in the environmental assessment process for the PNWLNG project. This has including attending every working group meeting for the project, participating in 19 out of 22 field studies with PNWLNG, and participating in the Principals Dialogue on the PNWLNG project side table, etc.
The Metlakatla First Nation has acknowledged a constructive relationship with the PNWLNG project, noting that design modifications have been incorporated as a result of ongoing discussions.
