Ichthys LNG project construction fully underway

Inpex – the operator of the Ichthys LNG plant – has released an update on the progress of the plant, confirming that construction is now fully underway, as significant work is being done on the two LNG processing trains.

Inpex claims that 430 workers are now currently attending to the mechanical (MEC-1) package on the trains, with many others working on the Acid Gas Removal Unit (AGRU) absorber. The AGRU absorber is 42 metres tall, 6 metres in diameter, and was the heaviest lift in the project at 752 t. The equipment lift was carried out by Mammoet – JKC’s heavy lift subcontractor. The gas that is delivered to Darwin, Australia, via the 889 km gas export pipeline will have natural impurities. These can be removed with the AGRU absorber as part of gas ‘sweetening’ process.

Other JKC subcontractors have also been working on absorber, such as Kentz, UGL-Kentz and MAS.
