Bechtel prevents strike action at LNG plants

Bechtel Corp. has reached an agreement with construction workers, thus preventing strikes that threatened to delay the start-up of three LNG plants that the company is building on Curtis Island, Australia.
According to a Reuters report, the Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union (CFMEU) approved the new pay and work schedule after rejecting two previous offers.
Kevin Berg, Bechtel's Gladstone General Manager, is reported to have told Reuters: “Obviously the industrial action had some impact to work on the projects but we will continue to work hard to bring these LNG plants online towards first LNG production."
The three Bechtel LNG plants in question are the Curtis Island plant, Gladstone LNG and Australia Pacific LNG.
Earlier this month, BG Group warned that the CFMEU has given notice to Bechtel of its intent to take protected industrial action on 7 August.
