Yemen LNG halts production

Yemen LNG has confirmed that it has stopped all LNG operations at its Balhaf plant, in light of worsening security in the country.
Reuters recently reported that fighting in Yemen between Saudi troops and Houthi rebels had resulted in at least four oil and natural gas tankers being diverted.
The Financial Times reports that Houthi rebels have made recent gains in the northern Shabwa region. Yemen LNG’s plant is located on the Gulf of Aden coast of Shabwa.
Yemen LNG added that it has started to evacuate personnel from the LNG plant, which will remain in a preservation mode. The statement continued: “As a consequence of the current situation, Yemen LNG has declared force majeure to its various stakeholders. The company will continue to survey closely the situation on the plant and its vicinity.”
