Dominion Cove Point LNG to receive environmental assessment

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) will issue its Environmental Assessment for the Dominion Cove Point LNG liquefaction and export project on 15^th May.

Dominion Energy president, Diane Leopold, commented: "We are pleased to reach another important milestone in the development of a project that has very significant economic, environmental and geopolitical benefits. Dominion is dedicated to constructing a safe, environmentally compatible and reliable export facility that will be an asset to the community, state and country."

LNG export facility

The proposed export facility will be within the footprint of the existing LNG import facility in Calvert County. No new pipelines, storage tanks or piers are needed at the facility. The company needs approximately 50 permits and approvals before construction on the project can commence.

Dominion filed notice for the pre-filing process with the FERC in June 2012 that it was planning to add export capability at its Cove Point terminal. The FERC has been researching and analyzing the application since then. Dominion filed the final application in April 2013.

Community engagement

Since then, Dominion has participated in a number of public information sessions and federal and state regulatory proceedings, has given over 50 presentations to neighbourhood groups in the area, distributed more than 26 000 information booklets about the project in the community and engaged the community through social media channels.
