Enel to close LNG deal with Cheniere

Italian company Enel is close to signing a 20-year contract to buy LNG from Cheniere Energy, according to a senior company executive.

US shale gas

Deliveries are expected to begin in 2019, Enel Chief Financial Officer Luigi Ferraris said at a strategy presentation in Rome. Under the contract, Enel will receive a total 1 billion m3 of US shale gas per year, over a 20-year period. The deal could be extended for a further 10-year period.

Endesa deal

It comes after Endesa, which is controlled by Enel, agreed to buy 1.5 million tonnes of LNG for a period of 20 years from Cheniere's proposed LNG plant in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Sabine Pass LNG

Cheniere has already secured approximately 12 LNG sales deals from its Sabine Pass export plant in Louisiana and is now focusing on attracting customers to its Corpus Christi plant.
