Train 5 of the Sabine Pass liquefaction project in Cameron Parish, Louisiana, US, is set to be constructed as Cheniere Energy Partner L.P. has recently confirmed that its Board of Directors has made a positive final investment decision on the project. As a result of this announcement, Bechtel Oil, Gas and Chemicals Inc. (Bechtel) has been authorised to proceed with construction. The Sabine Pass Liquefaction Project is being designed for up to six liquefaction trains, each with a production capacity of approximately 4.5 million tpy.

Sabine Pass LNG terminal

Cheniere Partners owns 100% of the Sabine Pass LNG terminal, which is located on the Sabine Pass deepwater shipping channel, less than four miles from the Gulf Coast. The LNG terminal contains existing infrastructure of five LNG storage tanks with capacity of approximately 16.9 billion ft3. It includes two docks, which can accommodate vessels with nominal capacity of up to 266 000 m3 and vaporisers with regasification capacity of approximately 4 billion ft3/d.

Cheniere Partners plans to construct up to six liquefaction trains, which are in various stages of development. Construction commenced on Train 5 in June 2015. The company has received all regulatory approvals to construct and operate Train 6.

Funding the Train 5 construction

In order to fund Train 5 construction, Cheniere Partners' Sabine Pass Liquefaction LLC has entered into four credit facilities for the incurrence of debt up to a combined amount of approximately US$4.6 billion. These credit facilities complete the financing that is required to fund the costs of developing, constructing and starting the first five liquefaction trains of the Sabine Pass Liquefaction Project.

Charif Souki, Chairman and CEO of Cheniere, said: "We now have five liquefaction trains under construction at Sabine Pass, with Train 1 expected to make first LNG later this year. We expect to reach FID on Train 6 at Sabine Pass upon completion of commercial contracts and arranging financing, as all necessary regulatory approvals have been received […] We appreciate all of the time and effort that goes into these projects and would like to thank our employees, contractors, Bechtel, government officials, and our strategic partners for their continued dedication and hard work as we proceed with construction on our Sabine Pass Liquefaction Project."
